Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs by Colter Wall
There’s a lonesome hopefulness to this album, which sounds like it was recorded by a middle-aged man in the mid-20th century and not a 25-year-old in 2020. Colter Wall sings with real country soul, a deep twang that seems to have been shaped by decades of whiskey drinking and long days on the prairie. This collection of songs harken back to simpler times, before smartphones and social media and a country in decline. Listening to it reminds you that the word “America” once conjured up images of purple mountain majesties and amber waves of grain. It’s a fine record to put on in these late summer days when you’re feeling nostalgic for innocence lost.
