The Neon Skyline by Andy Shauf
This album has confirmed for me that Andy Shauf is one of the most talented singer-songwriters of his generation. His approach to lyrical storytelling is uniquely his own, confessional and full of quirky detail. The cast of characters that span the album are human and relatable.
And behind the words, his compositions continue to surprise with their nuance and their levity. Like on The Party, these are beautiful songs tinged with melancholy. It’s a record about drinking at the bar as closing time approaches, lamenting the girl you could have had if only you’d been someone other than the someone you have been. I’ll excitedly await his future endeavors.
Completely love this album, what a joy.
